Three Brothers and Jim Beam

The Shelton Boys – Ron, Gary, and Dave – were waiting patiently for Justin Thomas to tee off on No. 1 on Thursday, when the three brothers looked back at No. 9 fairway and fondly remembered their mom and dad’s favorite viewing spot. Under the shady tree, right of the fairway.
One year, Fred Couples’ drive landed right at mom’s feet. That’s just one of their many favorite Colonial memories.
Wearing matching Palmer Legends caps, the brothers came together at this year’s Charles Schwab Challenge to honor their father and their family’s favorite pastime. Gary flew in from Florida, Dave drove down from Michigan, and Ron, who lives in Fort Worth, is playing host.
Dave’s son, Eric, arrived a day later – much to his father’s great surprise.
The Sheltons had been planning this trip since 2019, but the dang pandemic got in the way. This year, though, they will soak up the scene for all four days.
On Wednesday, they kicked things off perfectly with a round of golf at the Cliffs course at Possum Kingdom Lake. On the 15th green, they paused for a second to toast their father with his signature drink, Jim Beam. That was the first of many toasts this week: Here’s to the Shelton Boys.
