Flags and Our Fathers

Seven-year-old Jase Penland planted himself and his Charles Schwab Challenge flag just outside the lower putting green at Colonial on Wednesday to collect as many autographs as he could from his golfing heroes – Will Zalatoris, Justin Thomas, Daniel Berger, and Lucas Glover, just to name a few.

But Jase’s real hero is his dad, Cory, a firefighter and paramedic at Fort Sill, Okla., who, for the second straight year, drove nearly three hours to Fort Worth for a father-son golf tournament weekend. Jase, who is already making waves on the Junior Tour powered by Under Armour (hello, Jordan Spieth!), has dreams of going pro one day. And Cory says when he does, Jase will sign every autograph for his adoring young fans.
